For a long time, night markets have been familiar places with Vietnamese people from rural areas to urban ones, where people come to buy necessary things for their life at a far cheaper cost than any markets in the day. The image that women or men with stalls such as vegetables, meat, fish, etc gather in markets late at night or in the early morning may not be strange with a lot of Vietnamese generations.

Nowadays, when there is a development in tourism, a lot of night markets have been widened or opened for tourism purposes. 1. Ky Lua Night Market

Ky Lua Night Market may be one of the oldest Vietnam night markets that exist until now. Ky Lua night market is located in Lang Son province, a border province in the north of Vietnam, where many ethnic minorities live. 

This night market has existed for more than one hundred years in Lang Son. In the past, it was not only simply a market opened by the month where the locals brought their goods to exchange with each other but it was also called a love market where the young from ethnic minorities came to find love. 

Nowadays, the night market becomes a bustling trade center of Lang Son province, where there are not only Vietnamese people but also the Chinese bringing goods to exchange. It is also opened every day to provide necessary goods to people and for tourism purposes. When coming there, you will immerse yourself in Vietnamese ethnic minority cultural spaces such as Lung, Tay, Dao, and so on and majestic mountain nature sceneries. You can find colorful handmade products made by ethnic women such as brocade fabric, brocade clothes, small pretty boxes made by brocade fabric, etc, or a lot of strange specialties of the locals that you can only find at the night market.

In Hanoi Old Quarter Night Market, tourists are able to buy pretty small souvenirs as presents for relatives or try famous street food such as banh mi, fruit beams, skewers, sweet soups, etc. The location of the market is in Hanoi Old Quarter next to Hoan Kiem Lake. In the past, Dong Xuan Market was the most bustling market in Hanoi, where small traders from the northern provinces brought their goods to exchange. Nowadays, Dong Xuan Market is still the biggest wholesale market in Hanoi opening every day both in the day and night where people can find anything they want at a large amount and the cheapest prices. 

Dong Xuan Night Market is only opened at the weekend for tourism purposes. The market is located in the Old Quarter too, near Long Bien bridge; therefore, tourists can choose Hanoi Old Quarter Night Market or Dong Xuan Night Market to be the rest to have dinner. Similar to its name, Quang Ba Flower Market is a market specializing in flowers, opening from midnight to 03:00 am every day on Quang Ba street, a street next to the West Lake. Traders from famous flower villages in Hanoi such as Tay Tuu village, Nhat Tan village, or from other provinces will bring their flowers to the market to distribute everywhere in Hanoi. Flowers sold in the market are diverse depending on seasons but always fresh.

Especially at the end of the year, the market is open both day and night and is always crowded with people going shopping for Tet holiday. In the past, for Vietnamese people during the Lunar New Year, we have a habit of buying flowers to decorate our house to welcome a new year. If you have a chance to visit Hanoi at that time, you should visit the market to see flowers typical for Lunar New Year in Vietnam such as peach blossom, yellow apricot flower, and so on.

The name “Cho Am Phu” – “Hell Market” came from the past when there were no electrical lights and sellers in the market used oil lamps instead. The market usually opened from midnight to the early morning when there was much fog so the light from oil lamps created bright light spots that felt very mysterious and frightful.

Nowadays, Am Phu Market is developed to be one of the most attractive Vietnam night markets. When coming to the market, you can buy many pretty gifts for your relatives, try street food or local specialties. In particular, you had better taste salad there which is made of delicious fresh vegetables grown in Da Lat (Da Lat is one of the most important biggest fresh vegetable providing places in Vietnam).

The first area specializes in street food, tasty dishes made of fresh kinds of seafood, and local specialties such as Phu Quoc fish sauce, and the second is the souvenir area.
