III. Tips on Shopping in Danang

Image for post
source: dalatcenter.com

1. Don’t purchase the brand name clothes in the market: They are all fake, so if you are buying those as gifts and care about the quality, don’t buy them in the traditional market. Find them in official Danang clothing outlets. However, if you just need something to wear since you ran out of clothes, then these clothes are really affordable.

2. Bargain to the most you can: Unlike shopping in malls, supermarkets, or convenient stores, the price of goods in these markets isn’t fixed. Also, if you are a foreign tourist, the seller can easily rip you off by price-jacking. Therefore, you will have to bargain most of the time to get a reasonable price. Usually, bargain to half of the proposed price, you’ll get the real price that the seller sells for local people.

3. “Walking away” is an effective tool: When they say no with the price you offer, just walk away from the store. If they call you back, you win the deal!

4. Study to use Vietnamese currency (VND) before getting lost in the markets. USD is just paper here. 1USD = ~23.000VND

5. Be alert to sale: Sale-off products are usually not attractive or out of date, with lower quality, especially in Vietnam where the law is not strict enough. Therefore, when you decide to stop by a sale-off poster, you should check for the quality before making a payment.
