My Khe Beach - a Beautiful Beach in Danang

My Khe Beach is the city beach of Da Nang (not the one in Quang Ngai province): a long strip of smooth sand 3–5 km east of the city centre. Entry is free, and on calm days from March to August it is good for a swim.

Da Nang is famous for many beautiful seashores stretching from the north to the south such as My Khe, Nam O, Xuan Thieu, Thanh Binh, Tien Sa, Son Tra, Bac My An, Non Nuoc. My Khe Beach is the most crowded of Da Nang beaches and popular to local people.

I. Where is My Khe Beach Located?

My Khe Beach is located about 3–5 km east of the centre of Da Nang, over the Dragon Bridge, and about 24 km north of Hoi An as the crow flies (28–33 km by road). It is a long stretch of smooth sand between the Son Tra Peninsula and the Marble Mountains. The gradient is gentle.

How to get to My Khe Beach

From Da Nang International Airport, a Grab car or taxi covers roughly 5–7 km. GrabCar costs about 60,000–100,000 VND in the app, plus an airport entry fee of about 9,000–10,000 VND paid to the driver.

II. Why is My Khe Beach Special?

1. Landscape

My Khe Beach is an ideal and huge beach with smooth sand and a slight slope. Behind the beach is a row of hotels and restaurants across the road.

Especially, the beach is next to the city centre, in roads easy to come and by various means of transport.

2. When is it safe to swim at My Khe?

The dry season, roughly March to August, is when the water is usually calm enough to swim. From about September to December the sea is rougher; on rough days, treat My Khe as a place to walk rather than swim.

The lifeguard team of Da Nang beaches works from 5:00 to 18:30 every day until 14 March 2027, and from 4:30 to 19:00 in summer (mid-March to September), to guarantee safety for visitors to swim and relax on the beach.

They cover only the public bathing areas along the beach road: swim inside the buoys while they are on duty, and keep out where a sign warns of rip currents.

3. Infrastructure

American soldiers occupied a part of the beach before 1975. They established some premises for their relaxation and recreations. With some enabling conditions such as being near the city’s center, large space, beautiful landscapes, and qualified services (hotels, restaurants, vehicles keeping site, fresh water bathing, sunshade and buoy lease), My Khe Beach is now convenient for developing kinds of services such as fishing, water-skiing, diving, yacht racing and so on.

The city caps motorbike parking at beach lots at 4,000 VND by day and 5,000 VND at night; lots usually ask about 5,000. A fresh-water shower costs a few thousand to about 10,000 VND, and a lounger about 30,000–50,000 VND.

4. Accommodation

Around My Khe Beach, there are many hotels, guesthouses and various abundant services, creating favourable conditions for tourists to relax on the seashores.

Around the hotel area, there is plenty of seafood restaurants and stalls, and large numbers of local vendors traverse the beach selling all kinds of foods and drinks. Coastal specialties like shrimps, crabs, fish, cuttles, etc. in hundreds of small shops are at reasonable price. They can be irritating sometimes – if they are too persistent, you should ignore the nuisance since that is the best strategy.
