A trip to central Vietnam cannot be perfect without a stop-over at Lang Co Bay, which lies between Danang and Hue cities on the central coast. Visitors flock to Lang Co beach to seek for a wonderful landscape created by both nature and humans.

1. Natural Beauty of Lang Co Bay

Long white-sand beach with blue seawater of Lang Co may capture every visitor’s heart at first sight. Visiting Lang Co Bay at the sunset, you may feel nostalgic when seeing a peaceful fishing village with boat sailing in Lap An Lagoon (near Lang Co bay), together with flocks of storks flying back to their nest.

Being part of the Gulf of Lang Co, Lap An lagoon is an 800 hectare brackish water lagoon, which is famous for its poetic beauty of mountains, clouds and sky reflecting in the clean blue water surface as well as for rich natural resources including mangroves. Lap An is an ideal place for photographers and explorers. The best time to visit the lagoon is at dusk.

The natural complex of Lang Co Bay, Lap An and Cau Hai lagoons has been regarded as one of the most beautiful destinations in Southeast Asia. It is home to 11,000 local people who earn their livings by catching and farming fish, as well as providing tourism services.

Particularly, what really makes Lang Co bay special is its close proximity to four Vietnam’s World Heritage Sites, including the ancient citadel of Hue, Hoi An ancient town, My Son Sanctuary and Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. All of which are within a radius of 150 kilometers. Also, Lang Co is near Hai Van Pass with spectacular scenery and the harmonious beauty of the clouds, mountains and sea and the national park of Bach Ma.

The best time to visit Lang Co Bay is between April and August. In these summer months the weather is nice, sunny, clear blue sea and cool, with the two hottest months being June and July. The most rain you can expect around October.

2. What to Do in Lang Co Bay?

Lang Co beach is definitely one of the clearest beaches in Vietnam. Being immersed in the sea in the early morning would be the best feeling you’ve ever had, clearing all your stresses and thoughts at once. If you stay in a resort, usually you will be given access to the resort’s own sandbank, therefore there will not be so many people at the beach, which adds to the privacy and the wonderful silent atmosphere.

From the majestic Hai Van Pass, you can see Lang Co Bay in the crescent shaped, ccallops covered with white clouds, fishing village on the turquoise green beach … Sometimes you will see a train passing through the bay. The winding train track embraces the strait, the sound of the train swaying on the track and the sound of the wheels running, all create a nostalgic feeling of an old movie.

Sitting on the deck of a boat along a unique 3km canal through the Laguna Lang Co Complex is an activity that you shouldn’t miss, especially for couples. Inspired by the characteristics of the royal architecture and traditional Vietnamese culture, the canal will take you to see some typical impressions of Hue: the gray moss-covered walls, colorful lanterns, the wooden roof tile bridge Thanh Toan, …. When visiting Lang Co, it’s a must that you try all the famous Hue’s specialities. Lang Co is a very ideal place to have a luxurious lunch or dinner with amazing beach views in your own resort or hotel. 5. How to Get to Lang Co Bay?

From Danang City, the quickest and easiest way to get to Lang Co is via a taxi from the Da Nang International Airport. Most taxis are metered and will cost approximately 450,000 VND inclusive of tolls and airport exit fees.

If you’re in Hue City, there are also a few ways you can choose to get to Lang Co Bay:

  • Motorbike: You can rent a motorbike at 100,000 VND – 150,000 VND/day. However, you have to be an experienced driver to travel in Vietnam’s dangerous traffic. Make sure you bring someone with you while travelling a long way.
  • Private car: A private car with driver is the most comfortable way to go to Lang Co beach and to explore the coastal road. A taxi is also possible, but will cost you probably more for two ways than a private car for a day.
  • Bus: From Hue you can take bus no.7, departing regular from 5:30 AM till 5:00 PM.
  • Train: Lang Co also has it’s own train station; Lang Co train station (Ga Lăng Cô). The train from Da Nang to Lang Co takes 2 hours, but the train ride along Hai Van Pass is very spectacular. The train from Hue to Lang Co takes 2 hour and 45 min.

Lang Co was acknowledged as one among 30 most beautiful bays in the world by the Club of the World’s Best Bays (Worldbays) in 2009. This is the 3rd Vietnam owns the bay which is listed on the club’s list after Halong Bay and Nha Trang Bay. If you plan to visit the Central Vietnam, it’s a good idea to have Lng Co Bay in your schedule.
