Bánh quy vừng are round cookies made with butter, egg whites and a generous amount of roasted sesame. The flavour comes from that pairing of butter and toasted sesame. They make a good homemade snack to bake on a free weekend. Ingredients 3 egg whites (100 g) 70 g white sugar 100 g wheat flour 100 g unsalted butter ½ teaspoon salt 100 g sesame seeds, roasted 5 g vanilla powder How to make bánh quy vừng 1. Prepare the flour and sesame Sift the flour to get rid of any lumps and bits, then add the salt and mix well. Roast the sesame until it turns golden. 2. Make the dough Leave the butter out until it’s soft. Put it in a bowl with the sugar and beat with an electric mixer until the sugar has dissolved, which takes about 8–10 minutes. Add the egg whites and keep beating until they’re combined with the butter mixture. Add the flour and mix for about 1–2 minutes, until everything comes together. Add the roasted sesame and the vanilla powder and mix them in well with a spoon. 3. Pipe and bake Spoon the dough into a cone-shaped plastic piping bag and snip off the tip. Pipe small rounds onto a tray lined with baking paper. Preheat the oven for 10 minutes at 150 degrees, then put the tray in and bake for about 12–15 minutes. 4. Cool and store Let the cookies cool, then store them in a glass jar. They come out crisp and not too sweet. Share:
