Hanna Tran Hanna Tran | Updated October 16, 2026

Bánh quy vừng are round cookies made with butter, egg whites and a generous amount of roasted sesame. The flavour comes from that pairing of butter and toasted sesame. They make a good homemade snack to bake on a free weekend.

Leave the butter out until it’s soft. Put it in a bowl with the sugar and beat with an electric mixer until the sugar has dissolved, which takes about 8–10 minutes.

Butter and sugar beaten together

Add the egg whites and keep beating until they’re combined with the butter mixture.

Egg whites added to the butter mixture

Add the flour and mix for about 1–2 minutes, until everything comes together.

3. Pipe and bake

Spoon the dough into a cone-shaped plastic piping bag and snip off the tip. Pipe small rounds onto a tray lined with baking paper.

Preheat the oven for 10 minutes at 150 degrees, then put the tray in and bake for about 12–15 minutes.

4. Cool and store

Let the cookies cool, then store them in a glass jar. They come out crisp and not too sweet.
