Vinh Long is a small and roughly oblong-shaped province sitting along banks o the Mekong River. Vinh Long is also considered a land of islands. Most of the islands here are given over to fruit orchards and the narrow canals are often straddles by flimsy-looking woodern bridges made from trunks of coconut palms or bamboo and known as the money bridges.
Vinh Long is best-known for its Cai Be Floating Maket (which is actually in Tien Giang province, but covered here as it is most often visited from Vinh Long) and the Mekong Delta homestays organized here. Thus, Vinh Long province often sees a trickle of travelers passing through, but only a fraction choose to stay overnight at the same-named provincial capital.
Lush and heavily cultivated with both rice and fruit orchards, the province is crossed with canals and tributaries all flowing into the teeming rivers that form its borders and while most people do choose to stay here venture no further than across the river, those with the time (or their own transport) getting out into the surrounding countryside (if even just for a hour by hired motorbike), is well worthwhile.
