Sapa lies in the northwest of Vietnam, at the height of 1.600 meters above sea level. The town is 38 km away from Lao Cai city and 376 km far from Hanoi capital. Sapa’s climate is influenced by both sub-tropical and temperate climate conditions with cool atmosphere all year round. Sapa experience all four seasons in one day: spring comes in the morning; afternoon resembles summer time with soft sunlight; autumn can be seen in late afternoon with much cloud and mist which lower the temperature; at night, winter comes and brings along the coldness in the wind.
The annual average temperature of Sapa is about 15oC, which is ideal to develop tourism (relaxation & romance, retreat, etc.). Visiting Sapa in the hottest days of summer, the temperature seldom exceeds 25oC, so tourists can stay at Sapa to relax after hard-working at in noisy big cities. In summer, there may be sudden rains in one day. However, it does not seem to be a problem since the rains will pass quickly and be replaced by warm sunshine. In winter, the scenery will be covered with mist and cold weather. In some days, the temperature may fall below 0oC with snow in some places.
Rainy season often lasts from May to August with the annual rainfall of 1.800 to 2.200 mm.
High location plus the climate conditions have made Sapa a special destination of Vietnam. You can hardly find any place which has snow, even in winter, except Sapa. Tourists choose Sapa as the ideal destination for the mild climate, the friendly people as well as the marvelous landscape of Sapa.
