Phu Tho province is situated in the northeastern region of Vietnam, about 80km away from Hanoi. It is adjacent to Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Son La, Hoa Binh provinces.
The province comprises an area of about 3528 square kilometers with the capital city of Viet Tri. Phu Tho is an importation transport junction connecting Hanoi capital and the Red River Delta region to other north-western provinces. The land is featured by diverse types of topography with mountains, hills, plains, etc.
Phu Tho is characterized by the sub-tropical monsoon climate with the average temperature of about 23.5oC and rainfall of 1700mm.
With its long-standing history, Phu Tho is considered the birthplace of Vietnamese race. Legend has it that, the first Kings of Vietnam (Hung Kings) selected this land as the first capital, which is known as Van Lang. Today, there is the Hung King Temple, which worships the Hung Kings for having established and developed the country. Every year, in March 10th of lunar year, people from all regions come to this Temple to celebrate the Hung King Temple Festival, which is regarded as one of the most important festivals of Vietnam.
The beautiful landscape, plus the rich culture have made Phu Tho a great destination for tourists. Besides Hung King Temple, there are several beauty spots to visit such as Ao Chau Pond, Heaven Pond and Fairy Spring.
