While Phan Thiet has no shortage of transport options available for either holiday makers or corporate travelers. Getting around Phan Thiet by car can be a real treat if you have some extra time as it has some of the best roads in Vietnam.

 Airports

The nearest airport to Phan Thiet is in Ho Chi Minh City, 200kms northeast. Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport, also known as its airport code SGN, is Vietnam’s biggest international airport and more international flights land here than in Hanoi, the capital city. The main service providers at the airport are Vietnam Air, Pacific Airlines, Air France, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, KLM, Malaysian Airlines, Thai Airways, Qantas and Singapore Airlines. The airport offers regular flights to 18 destinations in Asia and Europe.

The recently improved and expanded terminal offers decent facilities, although its small size means it’s often somewhat overcrowded. The tourist information desk is located by the international arrivals exit. There are also several currency exchange outlets as well as a post office. Transfer to the city is by minibus or taxi and takes 20 to 30 minutes. Check that the driver is wearing an official name badge and that the meter is turned on. Limited parking options are available.

Getting to Phan Thiet from Ho Chi Minh City is easiest by train, which departs several times a day. The trip takes around four to five hours. Though the train is not as fast and more expensive than the bus, many travelers find the trip more pleasant. Passengers are advised to book the ticket three or four days in advance.

Public Transport

Motorbikes are the main form of transport in Phan Thiet. You can rent motorcycles at most resorts. A number of lean-tos along Mui Ne Beach also have bikes for rent. Check the bike to make sure its safe and to note any scratches already present in order to avoid misunderstandings when returning it. You’ll need a copy of your passport.
