Hon Chong
Hon Chong

Hon Chong is a cluster of huge stones in Khanh Hoa province. Hon Chong has two meaning in Vietnamese: to stack and the husband. Local people often refer to Hon Chong with its second meaning, the Husband Stone. However, the first meaning seems to be more suitable in explaining the arrangement of these huge stones.

Lying on the slope of a mountain full of rocks stacking over one another, Hon Chong overlooks the ocean from the cliff.  It seems that all these rocks are going to fall down any time, yet they still remain stable with impressive and stunning beauty. Their imbalance position may shock anyone who takes a glance at these for the first time. The largest boulder has the size of a small hill, which carries on it a house-size boulder. On the side facing the seashore, there exists a five-finger handprint, which has excited visitors, historians and scientists.

Hon Chong looks as if it is snuggling against another cluster of stones called Hon Vo (the Wife), which is situated not too far away. That’s why it is called Hon Chong (the Husband). Actually, there are two Hon Chong Clusters: this one and another one near Sat Thon Islet. So it might be confusing to point out which is the Husband. It depends on the imagination of viewers.
