Hanoi Weather

Hanoi Capital belongs entirely to the Red River Delta in the Northern of Vietnam. Blessed with the typical weather features in the North, the weather of Hanoi is divided into four distinguished seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Spring is the first season of a year which last from February to April with warm weather. It can be considered as the season of joy and happiness. Spring is featured by fine drizzle that helps plants grow fast and flowers bloom brightly. It is also said to be a season of festivals – in which The Vietnamese Lunar New Year (Tet Nguyen Dan) is celebrated.

When the Princess Spring has passed, the weather becomes drier and hotter. It is the time for Summer which begins from May and ends in August with hot and showery weather. During a day, the sun shines brightly and the weather is hot mostly until midnight. Besides, sometimes it is the sudden thundershower that makes summer less hot and become cooler.

The appearance of September begins the Autumn with cool air, and dry and lightly windy weather. Autumn in Hanoi is considered as the most beautiful season of the year with yellow leaves falling on the streets and yellow bright shines in day time – which is the forever inspiration for the poets. However, there are sometimes typhoons that threaten Hanoians’ life and agriculture in the countryside.

Lastly, Winter is the coldest season which ends the year. It is generally cold and dry in winter. Although the weather is “frozen to the bone” in Winter, you still hardly find snow in Vietnam in general and in Hanoi in particular. The Winter in Hanoi is said to be different from in other country, which make foreign travelers – who are familiar with the winter in their countries – still have to spend times to adapt to this special coldness.

To sum up, Hanoi has four specific seasons of which each season attracts visitors in their own ways. Let’s come to Hanoi in Spring for participating in Festivals; in Summer for the typical hot weather of tropical country; in Autumn for a romantic and poetic Hanoi; and last in Winter for the feeling of “frozen to the bone” coldness.
