Bus & minibus
Hanoi has several main long-distance bus stations. Each station leads to a particular destination. You are highly recommended to buy tickets the day before you plan to travel on the longer-distance routes to ensure a coach-seat.
In central Hanoi, Kim Ma Bus Station (located in Nguyen Thai Hoc Street and Giang Vo Street) has buses to the northwestern parts of Vietnam, including Hoa Binh (Mai Chau) (at least three hours) and Dien Bien Phu (16 hours).
Gia Lam Bus Station (located on Ngoc Lam Road) is the place for buses to lead to northeast destinations of Hanoi. These comprise Halong Bay (3½ hours), Haiphong (two hours), and Lang Son (three hours) and Lao Cai (Sapa) (nine hours), both near the Chinese border.
Luong Yen Bus Stationis more convenient for serving the same places (as Gia Lam Bus Station), plus Cao Bang (eight hours) and Ha Giang (seven hours).
Giap Bat Bus Station (located on Giai Phong Road) serves coach travelling to the south of Hanoi, including Ninh Binh (two hours) and Hue (12 hours). It is 7km far from Hanoi train station to the south.
My Dinh Bus Station (located on Pham Hung Road) offers another option for destinations in the west, including Halong Bay, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Dien Bien Phu.
Foreign tourists can book tourist-style minibus through hotels in Hanoi or some travel agencies. Some popular destinations can be listed such as Halong Bay and Sapa. Moreover, in order to meet the demands of tourists, there are a lot of open-ticket tours through Vietnam which start or finish in Hanoi capital.
City buses
Buses and minibus serve on most of the main streets of Hanoi from 5.00 am to 9.00 pm. After 5 or 10 minutes, there is one bus depart. The fare for each person is 3,000 VND.
Car, Motorbike and Bicycle
For cars, it is possible to hire with a driver from most travel agencies, hotels and airline offices.
Bicycles and motorbikes are also hired from many travelers’ cafes and hotels. To make a deposit, tourists have to leave passports with the owner. It is highly recommended to leave bike or motorbike in a supervised parking area for safety.

Cyclo
Traveling around Hanoi by cyclo is one of an interesting ways to enjoy Hanoi. There are many tours available for foreign tourists to travel on cyclo around Hanoi. Tourists can get cyclos at streets in center of Hanoi.
Train
Hanoi Railway Station (Hanoi train statio) is Vietnam’s main railway station. It is located at 120 Le Duan Street, Hanoi, Vietnam (at the end of Tran Hung Dao Street. Tel: 84. 43. 9423697 Fax: 84. 43. 7470366). This railway leads to almost destinations of Vietnam. Foreign tourists can buy tickets for southbound trains at counter 2, where the staff speaks English. It is advisable that tourists should buy tickets at least one day before departure to ensure a seat or sleeper.
Train tickets are frequently bought from 7.30 am to 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm to 7.30 pm everyday. To get tickets, tourists can go directly to the ticket office or ask the travel agency for arrangement or phone to the Ticket office at 84. 43. 9423949.
There are daily trains from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City passing through Vietnam Central (Hue, Danang, Hoi an, etc.). Tourists are suggested to book in advance for tickets.
Although Hanoi has fewer direct international flights than Hochiminh City (Saigon), tourists can get to almost anywhere all over the world with a change of aircraft in Hong Kong or Bangkok.
Vietnam Airlines (located at 25 Trang Thi Street – serves from 7.00am- 6.30pm on Mon-Fri, and 8.00am-11.30am & 1.30-5.00pm on Sat, Sun & holidays) links Hanoi to all destinations throughout Vietnam. Popular daily air-routes include Hanoi to Dien Bien Phu, Danang, Hue, Nha trang and Hochiminh City (HCMC).
Besides, Pacific Airlines (193 Ba Trieu Street) has daily flights to Danang and Hochiminh city (HCMC).
For booking air tickets, tourists can go directly to airline office for arrangement or order travel agency to arrange in advance.
