Blessed with many springs, lakes, waterfalls, rivers and primary forest, Gia Lai is one of your “should-not-be-missed” destinations whenever you have opportunity to travel along the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Geographically, Gia Lai borders on the North of Kon Tum Province, on the South of Dak Lak Province, on the West of the neighbor Cambodia and Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen Provinces on the East.
The climate of Gia Lai is divided into two main seasons: rainy season and dry season. The rainy season lasts from May to November and the rest time of a year is for dry season (from December to April). Temperature commonly ranges between 21 and 250C. It is estimated that the annual average rainfall on the west is higher than that on the East of Truong Son Ranges.
Gia Lai is the home of many ethnic minority groups living together, of which King make up the majority, followed by Gia Rai (33.5%), Ba Na (13.7%) then Gie Trieng, Xo Dang, Co Ho, Nhang, Thai, Muong. In Gia Lai, the Gia Rai and Ba Na ethnics have formed the long-standing history and ethnic culture. The unique features of ethnic culture are reflected through the Rong house, house on stilts, the architectural style of tomb-house statue as well as traditional customs, festivals and musical instruments. Some typical attractive festivals and events are the ceremony of Po Thi (leaving the tomb), buffalo clipping festival and Xoang dance.
Gia Lai is a land of many magnificent and poetic landscapes. Kon Ka Kinh National Park, Kon Cha Rang tropical forests, Xung Khoeng Waterfall, Phu Cuong Waterfall, Da Trang, Mo springs and Ayaun Ha Lake … are some of them. Bien Ho (or To Nung Lake) is the most well-known to both local and foreign tourists for its clear water. Coming there, tourists can see flocks of fish swimming under the clear blue water. Bien Ho is proudly called the “Pearl of Pleiku” in Central Highlands.
Furthermore, funeral houses together with special Rong house of ethnic groups are one of the proud of Gia Lai people. Tourists have chance to see by their own eyes the unique style of architecture of many statues in funeral houses and experience the local customs of ethnic groups. Additionally, Dong Xanh Cultural Park is also the tourist attraction that you should pay attention to whenever coming to the windy and sunny land of Central Highlands. Last but not least, historic sites such as King Quang Trung's guerilla base, Nup hero's homeland, Pleiku Prison, Pleime, Cheo Leo, and La Rang battlefields should be listed as favorites during your vacation.
