Quan Lan Communal house is situated in Van Don district, Quang Ninh province, about 35km from Cam Pha town and 55km from Halong city. The communal house lies within the area of a group of pagodas and shrines. Quan Lan communal house was built at the end of the Later Le Dynasty (in the 17th century) and was restored many times under the Nguyen Dynasty.
It is dedicated to the founder of the village and to Tran Khanh Du, who had great contribution in the victory on Bach Dang River in 1228.
The communal house was designed and decorated with special traditional themes such as dragons, phoenixes, flowers and leaves. Its front ceremonial hall has five compartments and two lean-to houses. The back sanctuary includes three compartments.
The most precious artifact to be preserved in the communal house is a statue of Tran Khanh Du with 18 royal decrees granted by the Emperors in Nguyen Dynasty.
Visiting Quan Lan Island, tourists will not only have chance to enjoy the fascinating scenery, but also to relax on charming beaches: Son Hao, Dau Nui, and Minh Chau.
Quan Lan village festival takes place from the 10th to 20th of the sixth lunar month (the official day is on the 18th day) but the festive atmosphere lasts for all month long.
